Weeks ago, when Mommy mowed our lawn she purposely left 2 patches of white clover flowers (weeds) in the middle of the yard. She felt sorry for the Big Bunny Rabbit who visits our yard and thought he/she might be hungry. So, she didn't want to mow down all the clover flowers so, she left some for the Big Bunny Rabbit. |
 |
This is our first reaction to seeing those 2 flower patches in the middle of our yard. I know -- we were speechless! You know how hard it is to make a Sheltie speechless! I yap at everything -- this speechless reaction was a first for me! |
 |
I couldn't even look at Mommy, I was so ashamed to have a lawn mowed this way! What would the neighbor's dogs think! |
 |
In any case, now we had 2 areas of the lawn to focus our attention to. We set out on a mission to investigate the patches. We had each others backs (get it, we are standing back to back) as we both searched our patches to see if the Big Bunny Rabbit actually visited these 2 patches and left us any pee-mail! |
 |
In this picture, I am telling Benji to stay here at this patch while I go to the other one. |
 |
In this picture, I arrived at my patch and I signaled over to Benji to start checking pee-mail by his patch. |
 |
This is Benji checking pee-mail by the 1st clover flower patch. He smelled something gooood! |
 |
Here I am (Lassie) checking pee-mail by the 2nd clover flower patch. I smelled something interesting too. Here is what we determined when comparing notes... |
 |
OH MY DOG !!!! There are Baby Bunny Rabbits leaving pee-mail in our yard !!! |
| |
|
 |
Mommy was able to take a picture of a Baby Bunny Rabbit by one of the patches. |
 |
Here's a picture of a Baby Bunny Rabbit a different day -- maybe it's the same bunny --do all bunnies look a-like! (Mommy knows there are at least 2 Baby Bunny Rabbits because she saw 2 at the same time.) Guess the Big Bunny Rabbit is actually a Mommy Bunny Rabbit!!! |
 |
It's been several weeks, and the Baby Bunnies are older now! They are hopping around to the neighbors yards and eating grass and weeds all over the place. So, Mommy decided to pull out "CLIFFORD" the Big Red Lawn Tractor and mow down the flower patch weeds, since the flowers were pretty much either eaten or dried up anyway. (Don't worry, she purposely left a little patch in another spot in the yard -- but it's not as obvious as the original ones.) |
 |
Here's one of the stickers that is on our "CLIFFORD" Lawn Tractor. (What -- like your human peeps haven't named their lawn tractors!!!!) |
We have spotted the Baby Bunny Rabbits several times in our yard over the past few weeks and have been chasing them under the deck and behind the shed. It's a good thing we checked pee-mail, or we probably wouldn't have known they were around -- they are sneaky little things -- and fast too!!!

Note: No bunny rabbits have been harmed in this blog post!
Well how pawsome is that and how sweet of your momma to leave noms for the bunnies. You did a great job of checking out the pee mail....and yes our lawn mower has a name too - its called the red beastie and looks the same as yours - they must be twinsies!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you have received lots of pee mail! It must be really tiring to work in such a big yard and I guess both of you slept like babies after the hard work.
ReplyDeleteThe baby bunny rabbit is so adorable!
You have baby bunny rabbits!!! How fun!! Be gentle. I am impressed with your Momma's lawn mower - very awesome.
ReplyDeleteBaby bunnies! How cute!
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that clover is a natural fertilizer for lawns, and that it is actually hard to find these days due to places like ChemLawn killing it.
Or maybe that is simply an idea I concocted in my brain to justify all the clover in our yard!
Your Clifford tractor is cool.
How interesting to have bunny family in your yard :) Don't scare them too much :) And beware, they can kick quite hard.

Wow - bunny rabbits leaving you peemail...how cool!!! That was so kind of your human leaving a patch for the bunnies...we think those clover flowers look so pretty! :-)
ReplyDeleteHow very cool, your own baby bunnie rabbits. WE love rabbitws here, My Vickie had a big white one that lived in our yard for years, before the doggy day care came along. that was too much for the bunny and he ran away. (or maybe a fox came and got him, we are not sure)
ReplyDeletebe nice to your bunnies......they are so sweet.
Congratulations you guys on winning Reilly's Pee mail contest! :) I've moved the yard like that too, so that the wild flowers can finish blooming. Katie's dad thinks I"m nuts.

ReplyDeleteSeems like bunnies tend to eat whatever is right in front of them - like flowers in my mom's garden! We have clover in our yard but we don't see them there much. :)
ReplyDeleteBunnies no doubt provide much wonderful sniffability. But Indy and Bogey love watching them do fast zig-zag hops around the yard. Woo-hoo!

I found two more bird cameras and put the links on my blog :) They are very interesting to watch!

You are so cute and witty! Those bunnies are adorable I must say...and the clover...I would want to make clover chains (like a daisy chain) the way I did as a young girl. Lay in the sweet clover and look at the sky....day dream.
ReplyDeleteI guess we can honestly say that Sheltie's don't really daydream. They are always on alert.
The other nice thing about bunnies, from Penny's point of view, is that they leave those nice little pellets of food wherever they've been.
